My Webcam

Don't worry it isn't a live feed of me in some sort of voyeristic version of big brother.
You'll be able to see a 24 hours a day live feed of the road into the Finglassie shops. Tell your mates to watch it while you go down and give it a wave, give me the fingers, anything you like (but please don't egg it).

Back online! I've moved house again and now the view should be slightly more interesting as stuff actually goes on here!

The new camera arrived much sooner than I expected it to. It's all up and running and is so much better than the old one. It streams very well and the picture quality is great. Only downside is that you must install an ActiveX control.

It's back! I know it took a long time but it was totally knackered. So much so it's running with the cover off and a small piece of metal jammed in it to make it work. But hey it works. I've got a brand new Panasonic one on order so hopefully that'll be up and running soon.

I have had a look at the camera and it seems to be better although I am not 100% confident it will keep working properly. You can tell its not working properly when all you see is a sort of smear with the time and date on it. It has something to do with the colour balancing but I'm not sure.

There seems to be a problem with the camera! Good going though considering its age and it has been frozen over winter. I think it doesn't like this heat we've suddenly had and being baked in a hot shed wont be helping! I hope to have it back online in the next few days.

All the christmas lights are down so all you are going to see is darkness and a rather bare garden.

There are flashing christmas lights on the summer house so you can see them on the cam!!

Hmmm, the camera is supposed to be used in temperatures of 5°C and above. I wonder what will happen once it starts getting colder?? **UPDATE** Last night (18/11/05) it was about -5°C and the camera is still working fine.

Windows are all condensation in the mornings now due to cold weather. I'm working on a solution to stop it.
15/10/05
Time and date moved to bottom of screen
01/10/05
Water fountain removed to avoid cracking with frost

FAQ

Q: What's this Panasonic plug-in thing I have to install?
A: In Internet Explorer you have to install the plug-in to be able to view the webcam. Firefox can view it by default.

Q: It's really slow or freezing up, what's going on?
A: The camera shares my internet connection so if I'm busy downloading it will slow the camera down. Also you need to have a decent broadband connection to see it smoothly. Chances are it hasn't frozen but nothing is going on giving the impression it has frozen up.

Q: Why can't I move or zoom the picture?
A: Because it is a fixed position camera without a zoom lense! Also I wouldn't allow remote control because you could easily move it to look into my neighbour's windows!

Q: Why have you got such a boring webcam?
A: Because I live in a boring street!
